DEVIATION: WHEN YOU LEAVE THE COURSE GOD GAVE YOU🛧

🧭 What if you were only ONE DEGREE off course?

At first, you might not notice. The plane is still flying, everything appears normal, but the farther you travel, the farther you get from your destination.

That's deviation.

And spiritually, deviation can be just as dangerous.

THERE IS ONLY ONE TRUE NORTH

There are many voices—culture, emotions, opinions, traditions, relationships, and even religious voices.

But there is ONE TRUE NORTH and ONE TRUE VOICE: God's Word.

That's why we must continually calibrate ourselves with the Bible.

THE MAN OF GOD WHO DEVIATED

In 1 Kings 13, an unnamed “man of God” was sent by God to Bethel.

Why?

King Jeroboam had established a false altar and was leading an entire nation into counterfeit worship. Israel's spiritual direction was being changed. People were at risk.

God sent this man to confront the altar and announce judgment.

God also gave him very specific instructions:

Don't eat bread.
Don't drink water.
Don't return the same way you came.

He obeyed.

Jeroboam, the king, offered him a reward—and he refused.

The king couldn't move him.

But then another voice entered the story.

An old prophet told him that an angel had supposedly given a different instruction from God.

The man of God listened.

He turned around.

He went back.

He ate and drank.

And then the true Word of the LORD came: he had disobeyed the command God had already given him.

On his journey home, a lion killed him.

The lion did not eat him or attack the donkey. The scene became a supernatural sign that what happened was God's judgment.

HERE IS THE REVELATION:

The man of God didn't fall because he didn't know God's will.

He fell because he deviated from what God had already told him.

The king couldn't change his course.

A religious voice did.

WHY IS HE UNNAMED?

The Bible never gives us his personal name. It simply calls him “a man of God.”

Scripture contains other unnamed people as well. The Bible doesn't tell us why his name was omitted, so we shouldn't invent a reason.

But his namelessness allows the warning to stand bigger than the man:

This story could be about any of us.

You can hear God.

You can obey God.

You can defeat one test.

You can complete part of your assignment.

And still become vulnerable to another voice.

CHECK YOUR HEADING

The enemy doesn't always have to make you abandon God.

Sometimes all he needs to do is move you one degree.

One compromise.

One wrong influence.

One voice.

One decision.

One step away from what God already said.

And the further you travel, the farther you get from your intended destination.

You can still be moving and be moving in the wrong direction.

So today, don't just ask:

“Am I moving?”

Ask:

“AM I STILL GOING WHERE GOD TOLD ME TO GO?”

Calibrate your life by Scripture.

When someone says, “God told me…”, check it against what God has already said.

When a new voice contradicts God's Word, don't change your heading.

📖 ONE TRUE WORD.

🗣️ ONE TRUE VOICE.

CHECK YOUR HEADING.
RECALIBRATE.
DON'T DEVIATE.
