Advancing God's Kingdom on Earth

The building God's kingdom is a central theme throughout the Bible, and there are numerous verses that encourage Christians to participate in this mission. Here are a few examples:

1. Matthew 6:33 - "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."

2. Matthew 28:18-20 - "Then Jesus came to them and said, 'All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.'"

3. Mark 1:15 - "The time has come," he said. "The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!"

4. Luke 9:2 - "And he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal the sick."

5. Acts 1:8 - "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."

These verses (and many others) urge Christians to actively participate in building God's kingdom on earth by spreading the gospel, making disciples, and engaging in acts of love and service towards others. The specific ways in which this mission is carried out may vary depending on a person's individual gifts and calling, but the underlying goal remains the same: to bring glory to God and to advance his kingdom on earth.

Jesus' teaching on PRAYER

3 Key Points on Jesus' teaching on Prayer:

1. Prayer is a means of connecting with God: Jesus taught that prayer is a direct line of communication with God, allowing individuals to express their thoughts, feelings, and needs to the divine.

2. Persistence in prayer is key: Jesus encouraged persistence in prayer, telling the story of the persistent widow and the unjust judge (Luke 18:1-8), which emphasizes the importance of continuing to pray even when it seems that prayers are not being answered.

3. Humility in prayer is important: Jesus taught that prayer should be accompanied by humility and a recognition of our dependence on God. He taught that prayer should be characterized by a contrite spirit and a recognition of our need for God's help, as seen in the Lord's Prayer, where Jesus taught his disciples to pray, "Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name."

Bible Study Notes: The Call

The Call

Mark 10:46-52

New Life Version

Healing of the Blind Man

46 Then they came to the city of Jericho. When He was leaving the city with His followers and many people, a blind man was sitting by the road. He was asking people for food or money as they passed by. His name was Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus. 47 He heard that Jesus of Nazareth was passing by. He began to speak with a loud voice, saying, “Jesus, Son of David, take pity on me!” 48 Many people spoke sharp words to the blind man telling him not to call out like that. But he spoke all the more. He said, “Son of David, take pity on me.” 49 Jesus stopped and told them to call the blind man. They called to him and said, “Take hope! Stand up, He is calling for you!” 50 As he jumped up, he threw off his coat and came to Jesus. 51 Jesus said to him, “What do you want Me to do for you?” The blind man said to Him, “Lord, I want to see!” 52 Jesus said, “Go! Your faith has healed you.” At once he could see and he followed Jesus down the road.

Mark 10:48-49

English Standard Version

48 And many rebuked him, telling him to be silent. But he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” 49 And Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.” And they called the blind man, saying to him, “Take heart. Get up; he is calling you.”

Romans 1:1

Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God—

1 Corinthians 1:1

Paul, called to be an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and our brother Sosthenes,

niːz/ (Greek: Σωσθένης, Sōsthénēs, "safe in strength") was the chief ruler of the synagogue at Corinth, who, according to the Acts of the Apostles, was seized and beaten by the mob in the presence of Gallio, the Roman governor, when he refused to proceed against Paul at the instigation of the Jews (Acts 18:12–17).

Brothers, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things – and the things that are not – to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him.

Euroclydon (Hurricane) Winds

Euroclydon

Acts 27:13-14 KJV "And when the south wind blew softly, supposing that they had obtained [their] purpose, loosing [thence], they sailed close by Crete." "But not long after there arose against it a tempestuous wind, called Euroclydon."

This Euroclydon (Hurricane) was a terrible storm from the east. This bad weather had to do with the oncoming winter. It seemed they hung to the coastline for safety.

This is a strong, dangerous windstorm greatly feared by those who sailed the Mediterranean.

Acts 27:15 "And when the ship was caught, and could not bear up into the wind, we let [her] drive."

This is just saying there was no way of going the direction the captain wanted to go without capsizing the ship, so he just let the wind carry them where it would. They were moving, if not in the right direction.
